Project

Pelican Rapids is home to a diverse population with different transportation needs. The corridor connects schools, parks, and businesses, making it essential to ensure the safety of pedestrians and cyclists. Aging city watermain and sanitary sewer utilities aided Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) in the decision to reconstruct TH 59 and TH 108 with a complete streets approach, which also enhances accessibility and security of all users.

Solution

KLJ is balancing operational needs and multimodal solutions, including streetscape design, ADA features, and drainage improvements. Public engagement was a key factor in developing design alternatives which lead to completing the environmental documentation and a Level 1 layout including two mini roundabouts through the heart of Pelican Rapids.

Results

The project is scheduled to be constructed in 2024/2025.
