KLJ Engineering Honored with DBIA Merit Award
KLJ is proud to announce that The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) has announced the 2024 National Design-Build Project/Team Award winners, recognizing excellence in design-build project delivery. Among the distinguished winners is the Hwy 52 Zumbrota to Cannon Falls project in Minnesota, a collaborative effort led by Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), KLJ Engineering, Mathiowetz Construction Company, and other project partners.
The Hwy 52 Zumbrota to Cannon Falls project, recognized in the transportation category, showcases how innovative design and construction techniques can transform a vital transportation corridor while enhancing community safety. Utilizing cutting-edge technology, including Bentley ORD for 3D design development and machine-controlled grading models, the team addressed engineering challenges early on, streamlined construction processes, and adhered to strict quality standards. In addition, committed to sustainability, the project also includes a park-and-ride facility equipped for future electric vehicle charging stations and permanent snow fences that minimize environmental impact and reduce maintenance needs.
KLJ’s comprehensive design covered more than 13 miles of roadway, incorporating three interchanges, six bridges, and several Restricted Crossing U-Turn Intersections (RCUTs), significantly improving safety for travelers and the local community and upgrading infrastructure to meet the Minnesota Department of Transportation's (MnDOT) goals for improved safety and efficiency.
The project will now compete for a National Award of Excellence “Best of” Categories and Project of the year. Learn more about the project here here.
