PROJECT

KLJ provided environmental documentation, design engineering, and construction engineering for the construction of flood protection features for a one-mile segment of south Fargo. Planning included options for raising the roadway to serve as a flood protection levee and placing flood protection features adjacent to the roadway.

SOLUTION

In addition to the basic roadway features, the design included approximately 800 feet of concrete floodwalls, approximately 3,000 feet of earthen levees, and special details allowing the roadway pavement to serve as a flood barrier.

RESULTS

All elements were designed to US Army Corps of Engineers and FEMA standards allowing the City to certify the system in the future if needed. Construction services included full-time inspection, materials testing, staking, and soil compaction testing.
