Isaac Berg and Austin Lovaas Earn New Licensures

KLJ Engineering LLC (KLJ) is pleased to announce that Isaac Berg earned his Professional Engineer license in Minn, N.D., and S.D. and Austin Lovaas, PE (MN) has earned his Professional Traffic Operations Engineer license in Minn.  

Berg is a civil engineer based out of Rapid City, S.D. The licensing process requires engineers to complete a four-year college degree, work under a Professional Engineer for at least four years, pass two intensive competency exams. 

Berg has more than six years of experience in civil engineering, with a focus on design engineering and construction administration for departments of transportation, cities, and counties. His work includes geometric design, corridor modeling, traffic control, ADA compliance, and drainage. He earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from North Dakota State University. 

The PTOE certification is a nationally recognized credential that demonstrates advanced knowledge, skill, and ability in the specialized practice of traffic operations engineering. To earn the certification, candidates must be licensed professional engineers and meet rigorous experience and examination requirements. 

Lovaas is a Professional Engineer in Minnesota with more than five years of experience in transportation engineering. He has a strong focus on traffic modeling, intersection and signal planning, simulation analysis, and safety evaluations. He has contributed to traffic flow and safety analysis projects across intersections, corridors, interchanges, and freeway segments throughout the state. Lovaas is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Institute of Transportation Engineers. He earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota Duluth.
