Project

The Pembina Gorge State Park Campground expands access to one of North Dakota’s most scenic landscapes, transforming more than 2,800 acres into a year-round destination for outdoor recreation. Phase 1 development includes 46 RV and 5 tent campsites, infrastructure for the addition of four-season cabins, a comfort station, and supporting infrastructure, designed to meet growing demand while preserving the area’s natural environment.

Solution

KLJ provided surveying, civil engineering, construction, cultural, and environmental services to design critical infrastructure that supports both current amenities and future expansion. The team developed water distribution and wastewater systems tailored to the site’s remote and sensitive landscape, using advanced LiDAR technology to optimize design and minimize environmental impact. KLJ also provided permitting, coordination, and construction observation support to ensure compliance and project success.

Results

The completed campground offers a modern, accessible, and environmentally responsible recreation experience. It supports tourism and economic growth while maintaining the integrity of the Gorge’s natural terrain.
