KLJ Welcomes Mark R. Williams in New Mexico

KLJ is pleased to welcome Mark R. Williams, Ph.D., as an archaeologist on our Cultural Resources team. Based in Farmington, New Mexico, Williams brings more than 15 years of archaeological and cultural resource management experience to the role. 

Throughout his career, Williams has led archaeological survey and excavation efforts across American Southwest, Pacific Northwest, and Southeast Alaska, in collaboration with descendant communities. His expertise includes Section 106 compliance, Tribal consultation, National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) evaluations, and cultural resource monitoring and reporting for energy, utility, and public sector clients. He has extensive experience working with federal and Tribal agencies and conducting outreach with community stakeholders. 

Williams’ background spans both professional and academic settings. He has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, and public presentations. His research interests include paleoenvironmental modeling, optimal foraging strategies, and human-environment interactions. He has taught archaeology field methods and GIS mapping courses at South Puget Sound Community College, the University of New Mexico, and San Juan College and has served in curatorial and research roles at the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology in Albuquerque, N.M. Williams earned his doctoral and master’s degrees in anthropology with concentrations in archaeology from the University of New Mexico and holds dual bachelor’s degrees in anthropology and cognitive science from Dartmouth College.
