South Dakota Department of Transportation is hosting their annual Airports Conference March 11-12 in Rapid City to bring airport managers, staff, and consultants together with state and federal officials to exchange information and identify opportunities for continued and enhanced airport operations.

A three-year- construction project recently came to an end when Bismarck Airport’s Runway 13-31 officially opened on October 19. Reconstruction of the 8,794-foot-long primary runway has been in the works since 2011.

Relocating an international airport is never an easy task, and not necessarily common in the aviation world, but that is exactly what happened in Williston, ND. The Williston Basin International Airport officially opened Oct. 10, 2019, when an incoming flight from Minneapolis landed at the new, state-of-the-art facility.

KLJ, Sioux Falls Regional Airport Authority, and T&R Contracting, Inc. received the 2018 National Excellence in Concrete Pavement “Gold” Award in the Reliever & General Aviation Airports Category in November for recent work at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport.

KLJ and T&R Contracting, Inc. will receive the 2018 National Excellence in Concrete Pavement in the Reliever & General Aviation Airports Category next month for our recent work at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport. The award is granted by the American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) to recognize high-quality concrete workmanship performed by contractors, engineers, and project owners.

Thanks to collaboration between KLJ and the Cities of Bismarck and Mobridge, both cities’ airports have been designated among 37 nationwide finalists to receive FAA supplemental funding.

Brandon Mattison earned his PE in South Dakota. He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from South Dakota State University. Brandon specializes in Aviation in the Rapid City office.
